The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of the government of Vietnam has completed the official public holidays in Vietnam for the calendar year 2012 by announcing the date of the 2012 Hung Kings' non-working public holiday.
As we had surmised at the time of the initial announcement of the list of 2012 non-working public holidays in Vietnam (2011-09-12), and as was the case a few years ago (2009-03-22), in 2012 the Hung Kings Anniversary public holiday will fall on a Saturday (March 31) and therefore give rise to a day in lieu public holiday on the following Monday (April 2).
The Hung Kings Anniversary public holiday was added to the list of official Vietnamese public holidays in March 2007 (2007-03-24), and after some hesitation, it was made a public holiday effective immediately in 2007 (2007-03-29).
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not make any reference to the recent proposal of extending the annual Tet, Lunar New Year, non-working public holidays by one day (2011-10-03).
