The government of El Salvador has issued a decree (Decreto Nº 208) declaring the June 17 a new annual non-working public holiday in El Salvador to mark Fathers' Day.
Recall that as per Article 1 of Legislative Decree No. 17 of 4 March 1940 (D. O. of 7 March 1940), which contains the Law on vacations, holidays and leaves of public employees, Mothers' Day is also an annual public holiday in El Salvador, but only for the public sector, while today's announced public holiday for Fathers' Day is to be observed by both the public and private sectors ("un privilegio del que gocen no solo los empleados públicos sino que abarque también al privado").
