Latvian President, Andris Berzins, after a meeting with Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, has said that he believes that Eastern Orthodox Christmas should finally be recognized as a public holiday in Latvia.

At the end of last year (01-Dec-2011), the Latvian parliament (Saeima) rejected a bill declaring Orthodox Christmas as a public holiday, and a similar bill declaring Orthodox and Old Believers' Christmas as public holidays in Latvia was rejected in its third reading in the Saeima 3 years ago (13-Feb-2009).
