Papua New Guinea 2013 Public Holidays Announced

The Governor-General of Papua New Guinea (PNG), Sir Michael Ogio, has released the gazetted official list of appointed non-working public holidays in Papua New Guinea for the calendar year 2013.

The aforementioned announcement of official Papua New Guinea public holidays for the calendar year 2013 is contained in the "PNG National Gazette", and confirms the date of the 2013 Queen's Birthday public holiday, and as usual (2011-08-07, 2010-10-26, 2009-10-08, 2006-10-13, 2003-07-07 and 2000-08-15) announces day in lieu public holidays, if applicable.

For a second year, the aforementioned 2013 official list of Papua New Guinea non-working public holidays includes an annual non-working public holiday (2011-08-19 and 2012-08-21), the National Day of Repentance, to be observed annually on August 26.

Finally, for the 7th consecutive year (2011-08-07, 2010-10-26, 2009-10-08, 2008-10-17, 2007-07-09, 2006-10-13 and 2005-10-01), the Remembrance Day public holiday is listed on July 23. It was moved from July 23 to April 25, eight years ago (2004-09-20), in a move that was meant to be permanent, but which was not well received.
