The Sri Lankan Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has announced that the Sri Lankan Government had finally declared Monday, May 7, 2012, as a one-off public holiday throughout Sri Lanka.

At the end of March (2012-03-29), the Sri Lankan Government Information Department had announced that, on a proposal made by Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna, Monday, May 7, 2012, would be declared a one-off public holiday throughout Sri Lanka because the 2 annual public holidays for the Vesak full Moon both fall on a weekend in 2012.

Note that, before that, Monday, May 7, 2012, had been listed as a bank holiday, in the list of official bank holidays in Sri Lanka for the calendar year 2012, released by Sri Lanka Banks' Association, last fall (2011-10-10), but not as a public holiday (2011-08-31).
