The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has signed the Resolution "On the shifting of days-off", which declares Thursday, March 22, and Friday, March 23, 2012, as additional one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan.

As usual in such cases of declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan (2011-12-27, 2011-08-25, 2011-03-01, 2009-11-25, 2008-12-25, 2007-12-25, 2006-05-01, 2005-12-28 and 2005-12-05), the aforementioned non-working public holidays will be compensated by having the same number of, usually non-working days, exceptionally declared as regular working days.

As such, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 (the date formerly set for the annual Navruz / Persian New Year public holiday), and Sunday, March 25, 2012, were declared regular working days in Uzbekistan as per the aforementioned Presidential Resolution.

According the presidential press release, the resolution was adopted "to reschedule the weekend to create favorable conditions for people's rest and rational use of working time" as this will lead to a period of 3 consecutive non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan, from March 22 to 24, 2012.
