The President of the Gambia Yahya Jammeh has announced that Thursday, August 8, 2013, would be the date of the upcoming Muslim feast of Eid-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan).

The aforementioned announcement was expected as, 4 years ago (2009-09-01), Gambia's President, Yaya Jammeh, and the Gambian Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), had jointly announced that from then on the dates of Muslim public holidays would be calculated in line with the Umm al-Qura calendar used by Saudi Arabia.
