Grenada Public Holiday February 22

The Prime Minister-elect of Grenada, Keith Mitchell, has declared Friday, February 22, 2013, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Grenada for the country to "take to the streets and revel in this astounding victory".

One-off, post-election, public holidays are relatively frequent in the Caribbean (2013-01-22, 2011-07-12, 2010-01-26, 2009-12-30, 2009-09-08, 2009-03-13, 2005-05-05, 2005-02-22, 2003-05-21, 2003-10-21, 2003-11-27, 1997-05-23, and 2001-12-03) and there was a post-election public holiday following both previous elections in Grenada (2008-07-09, 2003-11-27, and 2003-10-21).

Apparently, the NNP won 15 of 15 seats, thus ejecting the former Prime Minister's party, the NDC, from Parliament. Maybe the voters were mad at Tillman Thomas for recently canceling the Carriacou Carnival public holidays (2013-02-09).
