Honduras' President, Porfirio Lobo, has moved the date of the upcoming, October 3, Día del Soldado, annual non-working public holiday to Friday, October 11, 2013, to coincide with the upcoming football game between Honduras and Costa Rica.
As per the aforementioned announcement, this move was made following the requests of Honduras' business and football associations.
Such tinkering with Honduras' public holidays to adapt to the schedule of football games is not uncommon.
Earlier this year (2013-02-01), President, Porfirio Lobo, declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Honduras on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, on the date of a US-Honduras football game.
The previous fall (2012-10-06), President Porfirio Lobo had moved the Día de la Raza public holiday from Monday, October 15, 2012, to Tuesday, October 16, 2012, to make it coincide with the Honduras qualification match against Canada.
