The government of Honduras, through its Secretaría de Interior y Población, has announced Monday, September 16, 2013, would be a one-off non-working public sector holiday for Honduras' public sector, to compensate the annual Independence Day public holiday falling on a Sunday.
As per the aforementioned announcement, the declaration of Monday, September 16, 2013, as a non-working public sector holiday for Honduras' public sector, is in line with the decree 1951-2013 which would automatically declare a day in lieu public sector holiday on the Monday following any fixed-date Honduran public holiday falling on a Sunday ("se instruye a los ministros, directores y gerentes de las instituciones estatales que otorguen en día lunes en compensación porque el feriado es un día domingo").
Two years ago (2011-09-14), Honduras' Secretary of State of the Interior (Secretario de Estado en los Despachos del Interior y Población), Áfrico Madrid, had ruled-out the declaration of an additional non-working bridge public holiday on Friday, September 16, 2011.
