The government of Indonesia has issued its annual decree ("Surat Keputusan Bersama (SKB) Hari Libur Nasional dan Cuti Bersama Tahun 2014") designating public holidays and collective leave days for the calendar year 2014, for both the private and public sectors.
In 2014, the aforementioned decree from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, and the Ministry of Administrative Reform, designates only 4 additional days of joint leave (Cuti Bersama), as compared to the 2 previous years (20-Jul-2012 and 14-Jul-2011), when there were 5.
The Cuti Bersama were introduced after the 2002 Bali bombings (07-Nov-2002) to promote internal tourism as a means to compensate diminishing foreign tourism. The number of these additional public holidays rose from 3 in 2002 to 6 in 2008 (31-May-2007), but then later in 2008, the number of these was sharply reduced (05-Feb-2008), while subsequent years' announcements (15-Jun-2010, 14-Jul-2011 and 01-Feb-2012) brought the total of Cuti Bersama close to the pre-2008 counts.
However, there will be 15 national non-working public holidays in Indonesia in 2014, due to the recent addition of May 1st as an annual non-working public holiday in Indonesia (14-Aug-2013), as per Presidential Decree No. 24 of 2013.
Note, that contrary to what was done for 2003 (25-Nov-2002) and 2008 (31-May-2007), a day in lieu public holiday will not be declared in Indonesia to compensate the fact that the Indonesian National Day public holiday falls on a Sunday.
