The public sector syndicate of New Caledonia, Medef, has announced that henceforth August 15 would be a regular working day for most of the New Caledonian private sector (branches commerces et industries).

In compensation, a new public holiday will be observed on September 24 (fête de la citoyenneté) as had been requested in the past (2009-06-26). As New Caledonia's non-working public holidays are regulated by French law, it is expected that the public sector of New Caledonia will continue to observed on the August 15 public holiday.
