Nicaraguan Easter 2013 Public Sector Holidays

Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Jeannette Chávez Gómez, has announced that Nicaragua's public sector workers and government services would once again close down for 9 consecutive days of public sector holidays on account of the upcoming Holy Week ("desde el Sábado de Ramos hasta el Domingo de Pascua, período que marca la Semana Santa y que este año está comprendido entre los días 23 al 31 de marzo, será declarado feriado").

As per the aforementioned, unnumbered, announcement ("Comunicado Semana Santa 2013, 4 de marzo del 2013"), government services will close on Friday night, March 15, and re-open on Monday morning, April 1, 2013.

The extension of the annual, 2-day, Easter public holidays to a full week for the public sector is a regular occurrence in Nicaragua (2012-03-24, 2011-04-08, 2010-03-17, 2009-03-20, and 2008-03-10).

The private sector, for its part gets a 4-day non-working public holidays stretching from Thursday to Sunday, March 28-31, 2013 ("Las empresas privadas... serán de descanso obligatorio con derecho a salario, por ser feriados nacionales, los días Jueves Santo y Viernes Santo del corriente año").
