Omani authorities have announced that they have once again moved the dates of the upcoming non-working public holiday in Oman for the Prophet's Birthday for both the private sector and the public sector of Oman.
In a decision by Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Omani ministries, public authorities and other units of the state administrative apparatus will remain closed for a non-working public sector holiday on Saturday, January 26, 2013, on account of the upcoming Prophet's Birthday. Recall that the public sector weekend in Oman is Thursday-Friday, thus the public sector will be off work from January 24-26, 2013, inclusively.
In a separate communique, Oman's manpower Minister, Shaikh Abdullah bin Nassir al Bakri, issued a ministerial decision stopping work for a public holiday at private sector companies and establishments, also on Saturday, January 26, 2013. As the private sector weekly day of rest in Oman is Friday, the private sector will be off work from January 25-26, 2013, inclusively.
This last-minute announcement of a move of the upcoming non-working Prophet's Birthday public holiday to a date adjoining a nearby weekend also occurred 2 years ago (2011-02-13).
