The Pakistan Ministry of the Interior has announced that the Government of Pakistan had finally declared Saturday, May 11, 2013, the date of the upcoming parliamentary elections, as a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Pakistan.
In addition, it was announced that private and government educational institutions throughout Punjab and Sindh will remain closed from May 8 to 11, 2013.
Last month (2013-04-24), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had sent a letter to the Pakistan Minitry of the Interior asking the government to declare the date of the upcoming parliamentary elections, Saturday, May 11, 2013, as a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Pakistan.
The date of previous elections, both parliamentary and presidential, have on occasion been declared one-off non-working public holiday throughout Pakistan (2008-08-22 and 2002-09-10).
