The Qatari Emiri Diwan has once again declared Thursday, December 19, 2013, as a one-off public sector holiday to link the annual National Day public holiday in Qatar, with the following Qatari weekend.
As per the aforementioned announcement, December 19 will be holiday for ministries and other government bodies, public institutions.
As per custom, the Qatar Central Bank (QCB), all Qatari banking and financial institutions that are subject to QCB supervision, the Qatar Financial Markets Authority and the Qatar Stock Exchange, will issue a separate announcement, as determined by the QCB Governor.
The announcement goes on to state that December 19 was declared as a public holiday since December 18, the annual Qatari National Day public holiday, falls on Wednesday, one day away from the following Qatari weekend (1999-09-18), as was done on previous occasions (2010-12-15 and 2009-12-11).
December 18 was made into an annual public holiday by virtue of Qatar Law No. 61 of 2007 (2007-06-22). In compensation for this new public holiday, beginning in 2007, September 3 was no longer a public holiday in Qatar (2007-08-22). The change was later made permanent by the "Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers No. (6) of 2008, Setting the Official Holidays in the State and Organizing Work thereon" guidelines on official public holidays, and bank holidays, in Qatar (2008-02-06).
