The Romanian Patriarchate has announced that it would soon sent a draft bill to Parliament to declare Ascension Day as an additional annual non-working public holiday in Romania.
A few years ago (2008-10-09), following a similar request of the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church (2008-08-19), Romania's lower house of Parliament passed a law making August 15 (the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, also know as the Assumption) a public holiday, starting in 2009.
Since then, Romania has added Saint Andrew as a new annual non-working public holiday (2012-06-27).
