Romanian To Consider Ascension Public Holiday

The Romanian Patriarchate has announced that it would soon sent a draft bill to Parliament to declare Ascension Day as an additional annual non-working public holiday in Romania.

A few years ago (09-Oct-2008), following a similar request of the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church (19-Aug-2008), Romania's lower house of Parliament passed a law making August 15 (the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, also know as the Assumption) a public holiday, starting in 2009.

Since then, Romania has added Saint Andrew as a new annual non-working public holiday (27-Jun-2012).
