The government of Sri Lanka has finally announced its public holidays plans in relation to the upcoming CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting).
As per the aforementioned announcement, holidays will be declared for public and government-approved private schools on November 14 and 15, but no public holiday will be declared on November 15 for the CHOGM.
Last month (2013-10-05), the Sri Lankan Administration Minister had announced that the Sri Lankan Government was considering declaring Friday, November 15, 2013, as a one-off additional public holiday throughout Sri Lanka on account of the upcoming CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting). Usually, such musings by the government of Sri Lanka about a possible public holiday (2013-03-29) are usually confirmed soon after (2013-03-30 and 2013-04-11), but this was not the case this time as the suspense lasted for over a month.
CHOGM meetings have often been the occasion of one-off public holidays in the various countries where they were held (2007-11-15, 2010-11-05, and 2009-11-26).
