Following today's announcement that Pope Benedict the XVIth would retire on February 28, 2013, it is apparent that the April 19 annual Vatican public holiday commemorating his election will cease to be observed.

Six years ago (25-Mar-2007), an annual public holiday in the Vatican was instituted on the 19th of April, originally to commemorate the second anniversary of Pope Benedict the XVIth's election.
