The Government of Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, announced that, Wednesday, July 9, 2014, the day of the upcoming presidential election, had once again been declared as a one-off non-working public holiday in Indonesia "so that employees across the country can concentrate on the elections without being burdened by work".

The dates of legislative and presidential elections in Indonesia are regularly declared one-off non-working public holidays (05-Apr-2014, 03-Apr-2014, 10-May-2013, 15-Sep-2012, 21-Jun-2012, 10-May-2010, 03-Jul-2009, 31-Mar-2009, 06-Jul-2008, 30-Mar-2004 and 29-May-1999).

To reduce the number of such electoral public holidays, earlier this year (23-Jan-2014), Indonesia's Constitutional Court ruled that Indonesia would hold its presidential election and legislative election concurrently, starting in 2019.
