The Iraqi Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has once again declared Saturday, October 25, 2014, as a non-working public holiday on account of the upcoming Hijri New Year 1436.
This year, contrary to past years (03-Nov-2013, 24-Nov-2011 and 28-Dec-2008), the date of Iraq's Islamic New Year is the same as that of the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar.
In related news, the Kurdistan Regional Government, via its Minister of the Endowments and the Religious Affairs in Kurdistan Region, Mariwan al-Naqshabandi, also announced that “Saturday, the 25th of October is a holiday due to the Hijri New Year”.
