Peru's Ministra de Trabajo y Promoción del Empleo, Ana Ethel del Rosario Jara Velásquez, has announced that, once again, contrary to widespread rumours, Friday, May 2, 2014, would not be declared as a one-off non-working public holiday in Peru.
The aforementioned rumor was based on the fact that such one-off bridge public holidays have been declared almost every year for the past 6 years (2011-12-29, 2011-03-06, 2010-02-17, 2008-12-15, 2008-02-08 and 2006-09-15), to stimulate internal tourism (con el fin de fomentar el desarrollo del turismo interno y dinamizar las economías locales).
However, the annual list of official non-working public holidays for both the private and public sectors of Peru for the upcoming calendar year 2014, as released earlier this year (2014-03-31), does not contain any such one-off bridge public holidays.
