Philippines' Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary, Herminio Coloma Jr., has made an announcement on television last night denying new rumours that Friday, October 31, 2014, had been, or would be, declared as an additional non-working public holiday in the Philippines.
In its statement, Malacañang referred to Proclamation No. 655, s. 2013, signed by President Benigno Aquino III, last year (2013-09-30), and which lists the special and regular non-working public holidays in the Philippines for the calendar year 2014.
The need for the Government of the Philippines to issue last-minute statements denying the declaration of day in lieu, or bridge, public holidays is common (2014-08-19, 2014-07-21, 2014-06-08, 2014-02-24, 2013-10-23, 2012-12-27, 2012-07-12, 2012-06-03 and 2012-03-07).
Under former president Macapagal-Arroyo, the concept of holidays economics had seen mid-week public holidays moved to adjoin a nearby weekend (2007-07-25).
