The Suriname Raad van Ministers (Council of Ministers) has announced that it had decided to declare Monday, November 24, 2014, as another one-off non-working public holiday throughout Suriname, this time to commemorate Javanese New Year (Javaans Nieuwjaar - Sasi Sura).
The aforementioned declaration of Monday, November 24, 2014, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Suriname is in addition to the list of expected Suriname public holidays dates for the calendar year 2014, released at the beginning of this year (2014-01-15).
Last year (2013-06-02 and 2013-01-04), the Suriname Raad van Ministers (Council of Ministers) had declared Wednesday, June 5, 2013, as a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Suriname to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the arrival of indentured "Hindustani" workers.
Later, Chinese New Year was declared as a one-off non-working public holiday in Suriname for 2014 only (2014-01-15), but this was later extended to 2015 as well (2014-03-17).
