Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) executive director, Ben Paul Mungyereza, has announced that Thursday, August 28, 2014, would not be an official non-working public holiday in Uganda.

Thursday, August 28, 2014, corresponds to the beginning of the upcoming national population and housing census in Uganda. The Ugandan government had declared Friday, September 13, 2002, the date of the start of the previous census (2002-09-11), as a one-off public holiday "to enable all citizens to effectively participate in the national census".
