The Legislative Assembly of Australia's Capital Territory (ACT) has voted unanimously to approve the recently-introduced amendments to the Holidays Act 1958 to make Easter Sunday an official public holiday in the ACT, as proposed by the Chief Minister of Australia's Capital Territory (ACT), Andrew Barr, and in addition to the annual list of non-working public holidays in Australia's Capital Territory.

This past summer (2015-08-22), the Chief Minister's Office of Australia's Capital Territory (ACT), Andrew Barr, had announced that, beginning in 2016, it would add Easter Sunday to its annual list of the official non-working public holidays to be observed in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), thus amending the annual list of the official non-working public holidays to be observed in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) of Australia, during the calendar year 2016, as released by the Chief Minister's Office of Australia's Capital Territory (ACT), earlier this year (2015-01-21).

Less than a month ago (2015-10-31), Andrew Barr, then announced that, as promised, his government had introduced amendments to the Holidays Act 1958 that would see Easter Sunday become an official public holiday in the ACT alongside public holidays on Good Friday and Easter Monday, effective for the 2016 annual list of non-working public holidays in Australia's Capital Territory (ACT).

The initial list (2014-01-04) of the official non-working public holidays to be observed in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) of Australia, during the calendar year 2015, was also amended, last year (2014-05-08).

Five years ago (2010-10-13), the Premier of Australia's State of New South Wales (NSW), Kristina Keneally, announced that NSW would become the first jurisdiction in Australia to recognize Easter Sunday as a public holiday, effective in 2011.

Then, more recently (2015-08-17, 2015-07-08, 2014-12-01, and 2014-10-27), the Small Business Minister of the Government of Australia's State of Victoria, Philip Dalidakis, announced that the expected declaration of 2 new annual public holidays in Australia's State of Victoria (on the day of the AFL Grand Final parade, and on Easter Sunday), would soon be officially announced in the government gazette.
