Jammu and Kashmir Navratri Public Holidays Requested
Government of Jammu and Kashmir (Srinigar)
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has submitted separate memoranda to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of of India's Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir requesting government holidays for Ashtami and Mahanavami during Sharad Navratri.
Speaking at a religious gathering in Mishriwala, Jammu, the party’s regional president, Manish Sahni, argued that government holidays would allow devotees to participate in prayers, fasting and other religious rituals. He noted that Dussehra was already a government holiday, while Ashtami and Navami had not been declared holidays this year.
Sahni requested that, if holidays could not be granted throughout Jammu and Kashmir, they should at least be declared in the Jammu Division.
It is not clear which dates would be concerned as the Government Order 1894-JK(GAD) of 2025, dated December 12, 2025, already lists October 20th as a government holiday for Mahanavami. The request might be for October 19 and 21.
