The Iraqi Government, via its Council of Ministers, has declared a four day mandatory period of non-working public holidays in Iraq, from Thursday, July 30, until Sunday, August 2, 2015, due to current and forecasted high temperatures.

Earlier this month (2015-07-15), the Iraqi Government had similarly declared Thursday, July 16, 2015, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Iraq due to expected high temperatures.

Such weather related public holidays are routinely declared in Iraq (2015-07-15, 2013-07-17, 2012-07-25 and 2011-08-01). Neighboring Iran also regularly declares weather and pollution-related public holidays (2013-01-03, 2012-12-03, 2010-11-29, 2010-11-22 and 2009-07-07), while Jordan and Lebanon also sometimes declare weather-related non-working public holidays in Jordan and Lebanon, but usually for cold weather (2015-02-18, 2015-01-10, 2015-01-07, 2015-01-06).
