Jamaican December 28 Public Holiday Ruled-Out

The Director of Legal Services at the Jamaican Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Camille Bennett-Campbell, has issued a JIS news release in which she rules-out the declaration of Monday, December 28, 2015, as a one-off day in lieu non-working public holiday in Jamaica, to compensate the fact that this year's Boxing Day annual non-working public holiday will fall on a weekend.

The aforementioned announcement and argumentation ("That Act[the Holidays (Public General) Act of 1895]says that when Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, then the 26th will be Christmas Day and the following day will be Boxing Day. It makes no provision where Boxing Day falls on a Saturday for it to be celebrated on any other day") is in line with the Holidays (Public General) Act (1997-07-04, 1996-08-30 and 1996-02-24) and the list of official non-working public holidays (2012-10-10) and bank holidays (2013-03-16) for the year 2015 in Jamaica.

A few months ago (2015-07-21), under similar circumstances, Director Bennett-Campbell, had issued a similarly-worded JIS news release in which she ruled-out the declaration of Monday, August 3, 2015, as a one-off day in lieu non-working public holiday in Jamaica, to compensate the fact that the 2015 Emancipation Day annual non-working public holiday would fall on a weekend.
