The Consejería de Industria, Innovación y Empleo of Spain's Autonomous Region of La Rioja, through its spokesperson, Begoña Martínez, has announced its annual list of regional public holidays (calendario laboral) for the upcoming calendar year 2016 in La Rioja ("días inhábiles a efectos laborales, de carácter retribuido y no recuperable, del calendario del próximo año").
For 2016, and for the 4th year (2014-08-01, 2013-09-08 and 2012-08-03), the Autonomous Region of La Rioja has decided to switch the regional public holiday of March 19 (San José), which it observed 4 years in a row (2011-06-11, 2010-08-28, 2009-08-13 and 2008-08-02), for the June 9 (Día de La Rioja), which falls 2 days away from San Bernabé, a date which is often declared as municipal non-working public holiday in the capital of Spain's Autonomous Region of La Rioja.
In addition, as May 1st falls on a Sunday, in 2016, the list of regional public holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2016 in La Rioja will include July 25 ("día de Santiago Apóstol, en sustitución del 1 de mayo").
