The President of the Republic of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has issued a Proclamation declaring Friday, April 10, 2015, as the National Fast and Prayer Day annual non-working public holiday in Liberia for the calendar year 2015.
The National Fast and Prayer Day was set aside as an annual non-working public holiday by an Act of the National Legislature in 1883, "as a National Holiday for supplication, fasting and meditation to the Almighty God so that our efforts as people, may be crowned with great achievements to the common cause of the nation, the state and our common humanity", but such last-minute re-confirmation of annual public holidays are a staple of the Liberian public holidays calendar (2014-04-10, 2013-04-05, 2013-03-13, 2012-11-27, 2012-10-31, 2012-07-23, 2011-11-01, 2011-04-06, 2010-11-03, 2010-07-23 and 2010-04-08).
