The Ministry of Islamic Affairs of the government of the Maldives has amended the recently-released annual list of official public holidays in the Maldives for the calendar year 2015.
However, as per a last-minute communiqué by the Maldives Ministry of Islamic Affairs, "even though some calendars printed and distributed in Maldives conveys that 22nd January 2015 Thursday, 02nd of Rabee-ul-Akhir 1436 in the Islamic Calendar is a Holiday, it is actually not" and the aforementioned communiqué goes on to then state that "23rd of January 2015, that is the 02nd of Rabee-ul-Akhir 1436 of the Islamic Calendar is the day celebrated as the day Maldives embraced Islam".
