The Ministry of Islamic Affairs of the government of the Maldives has amended the recently-released annual list of official public holidays in the Maldives for the calendar year 2015.

Earlier this month (2015-01-06), the government of the Maldives had released its annual list of official public holidays for the calendar year 2015 which, as usual (2014-07-11, 2013-01-07, 2012-01-06, 2011-01-04, 2010-01-05, 2009-01-06, 2008-01-04 and 2007-01-05), was meant to confirm the dates of the Maldives public holidays that are based on the Islamic calendar.

However, as per a last-minute communiqué by the Maldives Ministry of Islamic Affairs, "even though some calendars printed and distributed in Maldives conveys that 22nd January 2015 Thursday, 02nd of Rabee-ul-Akhir 1436 in the Islamic Calendar is a Holiday, it is actually not" and the aforementioned communiqué goes on to then state that "23rd of January 2015, that is the 02nd of Rabee-ul-Akhir 1436 of the Islamic Calendar is the day celebrated as the day Maldives embraced Islam".
