The Acting Governor-General of Papua New Guinea, Theodore Zurenuoc, has released the annual gazetted official list of appointed non-working public holidays in Papua New Guinea for the upcoming calendar year 2016.

The aforementioned announcement of official Papua New Guinea public holidays for the calendar year 2016, is contained in the "PNG National Gazette", and as usual (2014-08-18, 2014-01-07, 2012-08-25, 2011-08-07, 2010-10-26, 2009-10-08, 2006-10-13, 2003-07-07 and 2000-08-15) announces day in lieu public holidays, if applicable.

Contrary to happened last year (2015-06-01), the date for the Queen's Birthday public holiday in 2016 in Papua New Guinea seems correct and will most likely not be amended as was the case for the list of 2015 on-working public holidays in Papua New Guinea.

For a 5th consecutive year, the aforementioned 2016 official list of Papua New Guinea non-working public holidays includes an annual non-working public holiday (2014-01-07, 2012-08-25, 2011-08-19 and 2012-08-21), the National Day of Repentance, to be observed annually on August 26.

Finally, for the 10th consecutive year (2014-01-07, 2012-08-25, 2011-08-07, 2010-10-26, 2009-10-08, 2008-10-17, 2007-07-09, 2006-10-13 and 2005-10-01), the Remembrance Day public holiday is listed on July 23. It was moved from July 23 to April 25, ten years ago (2004-09-20), in a move that was meant to be permanent, but which was not well received.
