Swaziland's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade Chief Commercial Officer, Magenius Hlophe, has finally announced that the upcoming Incwala annual non-working public holiday in Swaziland would occur on Thursday, January 8, 2015.

The date of the main Incwala dance, which is an annual non-working public holiday in Swaziland, is usually announced only a few days beforehand (2013-12-16, 2012-12-19, 2011-12-09, 2010-12-21, 2009-12-31, 2008-12-13, 2007-12-26, and 2007-01-04), although today's announcement confirms the date which we have been predicting for over a year, now (2015-01-04).

Due to the complex nature of the rule used to specify the date of the Incwala main day, and its related public holiday, the Incwala public holiday sometimes occurs twice in a year (2010-12-21, 2010-01-02, 2007-12-26, and 2007-01-04) and will happen twice this year as well as in 2018, and 2019. On the other hand, some years, it does not occur at all, as was the case in 2006, 2009 and 2014, and will be the case again in 2017 and 2020.

Based on our calculations for 2015, we estimate that there will be a second occurrence of the Incwala non-working public holiday in Swaziland on Monday, December 28, 2015.
