The administration of Argentine President, Mauricio Macri, has sent to Congress a legislative proposal, penned by his chief of staff, Marcos Peña, implementing his recent decision to put an end to the process of declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Argentina ("feriados con fines turísticos") effective next year, for the calendar year 2017.
Contrary to his pronouncements during the last presidential campaign, Argentine President, Mauricio Macri, once in power, did not reverse any of the annual public holidays or one-off non-working public holidays ("feriados con fines turísticos") previously-declared (2013-11-12) and later reconfirmed in the last days of the administration of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (2015-10-30).
But, at the end of October (2016-10-30), Argentina's President, Mauricio Macri, finally announced a stop to the process of declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Argentina ("feriados con fines turísticos") effective with the calendar year 2017.
The "feriados con fines turísticos" were established in the 2010 decree, published in the "Decreto 1585/2010, Establécense días feriados con fines turísticos" (Boletín Oficial, Número 32.020, Año CXVIII), implementing a major public holidays revision (2010-11-03) and instituting the principle of 2 annual bridge public holidays ("en los casos en que los feriados nacionales coincidan con los días martes o jueves, a fijar 2 feriados por año que deberán coincidir con los días lunes o viernes inmediatos respectivos") to be announced at least 50 days before the beginning of the year in question ("debiendo establecer los mismos por períodos trianuales con una antelación de 50 días a la finalización del año calendario").
