Bahrain's Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has issued a circular declaring Friday and Saturday, December 16 an 17, 2016, as non-working public holidays in Bahrain to mark the upcoming annual National Day and the 17th Anniversary of the accession to the throne of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
As was the case some previous years (2011-12-13 and 2010-12-12), but not all (2015-12-13, 2014-12-13 and 2013-12-12), the aforementioned dates coincide with the Friday and Saturday weekly days of rest in Bahrain (2006-08-02), leading Bahrain's Prime Minister to add that "As Friday and Saturday are already public holidays, they will be compensated, and the holidays will be extended to Sunday and Monday, December 18 and 19".
