Bahrain 2017 Public Holidays Announced

Bahrain's Central Bank has published its annual list of expected bank holidays and public holidays in Bahrain for the calendar year 2017.

As was the case in past years (2015-09-02, 2014-10-20, 2013-08-22, 2012-10-21, 2011-09-07, 2010-07-02 and 2009-06-22), this published list does not contain the days in lieu that will occur when a 2017 Bahraini public holiday falls on one of the weekends days as defined in Bahrain (2006-08-02).

In addition, once again, the aforementioned list seems based on the Arithmetic Islamic Calendar rather than the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar, and for 2017 the announced Muslim public holidays dates for Ashura are a day earlier than the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar, which is itself often a day early as compared to Asia and some African countries.

We therefore expect the aforementioned Muslim public holidays dates in Bahrain announced for 2017, to be changed later next year.
