Chile's President, Michelle Bachelet, has announced that she was about to send a bill to congress which would resuscitate the 2011 attempts at declaring January 2 as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Chile.
Five years ago (2011-12-21), a bill was introduced in the Chilean Senate's Comisión de Gobierno Interior y Regionalización declaring Monday, January 2, 2012, as a one-off public holiday to compensate the fact that the upcoming New Year's Day public holiday falls on a Sunday.
But, at the time (2011-12-28), Chile's Minister of Labor, Evelyn Matthei, had announced that the government of Chile would reject the declaration of an additional one-off public holiday on Monday, January 2, 2012.
