Nigerian 2016 Eid Public Holidays Extended

The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, in a statement on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, and signed by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Bassey Okon Akpanyung, Thursday, July 7, 2016, had been declared as an additional non-working public holidays throughout Nigeria on account of the upcoming Eid-el-Fitri (End of Ramadan) annual public holidays of Nigeria, due to the Moon of Shawwal had not been sighted.

Last week (2016-06-30), the very same Nigerian Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, in a statement on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, had announced that Tuesday and Wednesday, July 5-6, 2016, had been declared as non-working public holidays throughout Nigeria on account of the upcoming Eid-el-Fitri (End of Ramadan) annual public holidays of Nigeria.

Contrary to what happened in previous years (2015-07-14, 2014-07-23, 2013-08-05, 2012-08-13, 2009-09-18 and 2008-09-25), though not systematically (2011-08-24 and 2010-09-03), the Nigerian Government then and now had not moved the upcoming End of Ramadan public holidays to adjoin a nearby weekend.
