Solomon Islands Public Holiday March 1st

Earlier this morning, the Solomon Islands Government Communications Unit announced that the Cabinet of the Solomon Islands had declared Tuesday, March 1st, 2016, as a "National Day of Mourning" non-working public holiday in the Solomon Islands, in honour of the Late Sir Peter Kenilorea who passed away on Thursday 25th of February 2016.

As per the aforementioned announcement, issued to "all Government Ministries and Agencies, Business Houses, Diplomatic Missions and International Agencies and the General Public",the declaration of Tuesday, March 1st, 2016, as a "National Day of Mourning" non-working public holiday in the Solomon Islands, was made by the Minister of Home Affairs, Manasseh Maelanga, who declared Tuesday, March 1st, 2016, as a "Special Public Holiday" in the Solomon Islands, in an Extraordinary Gazette entry, as per the provisions of the "Public Holidays Act (cap 151)", thus amending the previously-released list of annual non-working public holidays in the Solomon Islands for the upcoming year 2016 as announced by the Solomon Islands Ministry for Home Affairs, late last year (2015-12-15).
