The Sri Lankan Minister of Home Affairs has announced that, "after considering current inclement weather resulting in floods and landslides in several parts of the country", the Sri Lankan Government had decided to cancel its previously-declared day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka granted to public officers on Monday, May 23, 2016, due to the annual Vesak full Moon Poya day of Sri Lanka falling on a Saturday in 2016.

Earlier this month (2016-05-02), the Sri Lankan Minister of Home Affairs had announced that the Sri Lankan Government had decided to declare Monday, May 23, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka in view of the annual Vesak full Moon Poya day of Sri Lanka falling on a Saturday in 2016., thus officially amending the official list of Sri Lankan public holidays for the calendar year 2016 as announced last year (2015-05-29).

Note that the announcement only applies to government services ("May 23rd is declared as a working day for public officers") and therefore that May 23 is still expected to be a mercantile and bank holiday in Sri Lanka.
