The Sri Lankan Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, Wajira Abeyawardena, has announced that the Sri Lankan Government had decided not to declare Monday, May 2, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka in view of the annual May 1 non-working public holiday of Sri Lanka falling on a Sunday in 2016.

The aforementioned announcement by Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, Wajira Abeyawardena, that the Sri Lankan Government had decided not to declare Monday, May 2, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka, a request made by Sri Lanka's Minister of Labour, John Senevirate, thus leaves unchanged the official list of Sri Lankan public holidays for the calendar year 2016 as announced last year (2015-05-29).

Recall that, earlier this month (2016-04-11), the Sri Lankan Government had decided to declare Friday, April 15, 2016, as a non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka, to link this year's, April 13-14, Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Sri Lankan Public holidays with the subsequent weekend of April 16 and 17, 2016.
