The government of Suriname announced that the upcoming Dag der Inheemsen (Indigenous People's Day) annual non-working public holiday in Suriname would be observed on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, a date which has been declared a non-working public holiday in Suriname.

The aforementioned announcement that the upcoming upcoming Dag der Inheemsen (Indigenous People's Day) annual non-working public holiday in Suriname would be observed on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, is in line with the annual list of expected bank holidays and non-working public holidays in Suriname dates for the calendar year 2016, released earlier this year (2016-01-23).

The "Dag der Inheemsen" (Indigenous People's Day) annual non-working public holiday of Suriname was added to the list of official Suriname public holidays almost a decade ago (2007-08-08).
