The government of Suriname, via its Minister of the Interior, Mike Noersalim, has announced that the upcoming "Dag der Marrons" annual non-working public holiday in Suriname would be observed on Monday, October 10, 2016, a date which has been declared a non-working public holiday in Suriname.
The aforementioned announcement that Monday, October 10, 2016, has been declared a non-working public holiday in Suriname, follows from the 2010 addition of the Maroons' Day public holiday in Suriname to the list of official Suriname public holidays effective the following year (2010-11-24), with the Maroons' Day public holiday in Suriname being re-conducted every year since (2016-01-23, 2014-02-12, 2014-01-15, 2013-01-04 and 2012-01-31).
