The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has signed the resolution "On announcing 2 January 2017 as the day-off" which declares Monday, January 2, 2017, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan, in connection with the celebration of the 2017 New Year in Uzbekistan.

Contrary to what usually happens in similar cases when the government of Uzbekistan declares one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan (2016-08-26, 2016-02-12, 2015-11-21, 2015-08-27, 2012-03-20, 2011-12-27, 2011-08-25, 2011-03-01, 2009-11-25, 2008-12-25, 2007-12-25, 2006-05-01, 2005-12-28 and 2005-12-05), though not all (2014-12-26), the aforementioned non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan on Monday, January 2, 2017, is not to be compensated by having a nearby weekend day declared as a regular working day in Uzbekistan, but simply that "President Mirziyoyev took into account appeals of the citizens and public organization of the country during adoption of the decision".
