Botswana's Sports Minister, Thapelo Olopeng, has announced that a one-off public holiday in Botswana would be declared to honour Isaac Makwala's performance at the World Athletics Championship

The aforementioned announcement that a one-off public holiday in Botswana would be declared to honour Isaac Makwala ("The president has set aside a certain day for him" and "It will be a public holiday for people to come and meet Makwala and all over the country there will be celebrations with music and dancing"), would thus amend the list of official non-working public holidays in Botswana for the calendar year 2017, which was announced, late last year (2016-12-25).

Such one-off declaration of public holidays in Botswana are rather rare, and are usually limited to electoral occasions (2014-10-16, 2014-08-07 and 2009-09-07), though not always (2016-09-03).
