Chile's President, Michelle Bachelet, has announced that she had sent a bill to congress which would create a new annual non-working public holiday in Chile on June 24 to commemorate Chile's native peoples.

The aforementioned "Proyecto de Ley que establece feriado el Día de los Pueblos Originarios" would create a new annual non-working public holiday in Chile on June 24.

This bill, were it to pass, would come too late to affect the list of official non-working public holidays in Chile for the calendar year 2017 (2016-01-01), but might come in time to amend the previously-released list of official non-working public holidays in Chile for the calendar year 2018 (2017-01-02).
