The Ministry of Labour of the Dominican Republic has announced its annual official finalized listing of non-working public holidays in the Dominican Republic for the upcoming calendar year 2018.
As usual (2016-11-06, 2015-10-31, 2014-10-31, 2013-10-24, and 2012-11-27), the list of non-working public holidays in the Dominican Republic for the upcoming calendar year 2018, as announced by the Secretary of State for Labour, refers itself to the 1997 "Ley No. 139-97 mediante la cual los días feriados del calendario que coincidan con los días martes y miércoles, jueves o viernes" (1997-06-19).
Attempts to amend the Ley No. 139-97 have been numerous, and have in some cases progressed far, adding Easter Monday as a new annual non-working public holidays in the Dominican Republic (2013-04-01), and trying to fix back to their set dates the January 6 and 26 annual non-working public holidays in the Dominican Republic (2016-10-18, 2014-12-02 and 2013-07-27), but never made it to final ratification.
