The SPD parliamentary group of Germany's State of Bavaria has proposed to all political groups within the state parliament of Bavaria to declare November 8, 2018, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Germany's State of Bavaria, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Free State of Bavaria.

Bavarian SPD group leader, Markus Rinderspacher, also stated that he would be open to the idea of November 8 becoming an annual non-working public holiday in Germany's State of Bavaria ("er durchaus auch offen wäre für einen jedes Jahr wiederkehrenden Feiertag").

The list of 2017 bank holidays in Germany (2016-09-04) includes a one-off national public holiday for Reformation Day, on October 31, 2017, after half a decade of piecemeal declaration of October 31, 2017, as a one-off public holiday, by each German Land (2015-10-08, 2014-09-16, 2013-12-12, 2013-08-13, 2013-06-04, 2013-05-17, 2013-05-15, 2013-05-01, 2013-03-14, 2013-03-08, 2013-01-25, 2013-01-10, 2012-12-13).
