The supervisory body in charge of the banking sector in Guatemala (the Superintendencia de Bancos de Guatemala) has announced that a day in lieu bank holiday would be observed in Guatemala on Monday, July 3, 2017, in conjunction with the annual, Día del Empleado Bancario bank holiday of Guatemala, as well as of the annual Día del Ejército non-working public holiday in Guatemala.
The aforementioned announcement ("La Junta Monetaria autorizó que los bancos, sucursales, agencias bancarias, sociedad financieras, compañías de seguros, almacenadoras y casas de cambio cerrarán sus instalaciones el lunes 3 de julio.") is in line with the list of annual bank holidays in Guatemala and afferent rules thereto, as announced 7 years ago (2009-12-17) in the "Reglamento de Asuetos de las Instituciones Bancarias que operan en la República (Resolución JM-129-2009)", which lists afternoon banks-only public holidays as well as some Monday banks-only public holidays in Guatemala when an annual non-working public holiday falls on the weekend, and amended itself a year later (2010-12-20), as well as with the list of official bank holidays for the calendar year 2017 in Guatemala released earlier this year (2017-01-15).
